BAHAWALPUR, Dec 26: Four of six tehsil naib nazims belonging to PML-backed Bahawalpur Ittehad headed by District Nazim Tariq Cheema were unofficially elected unopposed on Monday.

They are: Ejaz Safdar (son of former MPA Ch Safdar Hussain) of Saddar tehsil, Sarwar Gill of Hasilpur, Syed Sibtain Bokhari of Ahmedpur East and Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar of Khairpur Tamewali.

In tehsil city Bahawalpur, two candidates — Liaquat Ali Shah of Bahawalpur Ittehad and Ms Farzana, a councillor of UC 2, filed their nomination papers for the slot of naib nazim. Liaquat Ali Shah is the Bahawalpur Ittehad nominee.

In Yazman, Chaudhury Basharat Randawa (Bahawalpur Ittehad) and Chaudhury Irshad (Sadiq Dost group) filed papers.

There will be a straight fight between PML’s Syed Irfan Gardezi and Chaudhury Muhammad Javed of the opposition for the district naib nazim slot.
