ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will commence on October 25 hearing on the presidential reference seeking its opinion on the proposed reconstitution of the Reko Diq project.

A five-judge SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, will take up the reference. Other members of the bench are: Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.

The reference was filed to seek the apex court’s interpretation about whether the 2013 Supreme Court judgement in the Reko Diq case stopped the federal and Balochistan governments from entering into an implementation agreement and the constitutionality of the proposed Foreign Investment (Protection and Promotion) Bill, 2022).
