KARACHI, Dec 26: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Monday ordered administrative changes in the health department of the city government to further improve performance of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and other hospitals of the city government.

According to details, names of four posts in the health department were changed. The post of district officer administration-II was renamed as district officer medical services, deputy district officer medical services as district officer-II medical services, assistant district officer medical services Gazadarabad as deputy district officer medical services and deputy district officer biostatistics cell was renamed as deputy district officer medical.

Dr Ashraf Siddiqui was made district officer medical services (health group of offices), and the administrative control of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Spencer Eye Hospital, Lyari, Leprosy Hospital, Sarfraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital, Lyari General Hospital, Homeopathic Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Home, Gazdarabad Maternity Home, Gizri Maternity Home, X-Ray Clinic, Employees’ Clinic and City Government Medical Stores was given to him.

In other changes, Dr Jamaluddin was posted as the district officer-II medical services (health group of offices). The resident medical officer of Leprosy Hospital, Dr Suhail Iqbal, was transferred and appointed as deputy medical superintendent of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The medical officer of Leprosy Hospital, Nadeem Ahmed, was transferred and posted as assistant medical superintendent (clinical services and casualty) Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The head of Surgery Department, Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC), S. M. Abbas was made the principal of the KMDC, while KMDC vice-principal Prof Dr Javed Qazi was transferred and posted as head of the diagnostic laboratory of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Prof Dr Sadia Aziz despite transfer would continue to serve as head of the Gynaecology Department of the KMDC.

In another major development, tenders were invited from private security firms to hand them over, the security of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. It is expected that all security arrangements of the hospital would go to the private sector by the end of next month. Meanwhile, the work of internal cleanliness of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital would also be given to the private sector.—PPI
