TAXILA: A 92-year-old mother was allegedly assaulted by her son who did not even consider his mother’s ailment and threw her out of the house.

This unfortunate incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Wah Cantontment police station on Tuesday.

After a video of the elderly woman narrating her ordeal surfaced, City Police Officer Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari took immediate notice of it and on his directives, police arrested the suspect and registered a case against him under the Parents Protection Ordinance, 2021.

According to a police spokesman, a video of the elderly woman, a widow and resident of Bhabra area, went viral on social media, in which she was heard talking about the alleged abuse and torture carried out by her son who threw her out of the house besides snatching her pension and demanding more money from her.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Malik Mohammad Arif told journalists that after an inquiry, police registered a case against Asad Abbas Shah under the Protection of Parents Ordinance, 2021 based on his mother’s statement and sent him behind bars after he was found guilty.

“Those found guilty under the Act may face a prison term up to one year or fine, or both,” he added.
