KARACHI: The Pakistan Association for Mental Health (PAMH) on Sunday celebrated World Mental Health Day and awarded the lifetime achievement award to acclaimed psychiatrist Prof Dr S. Haroon Ahmed.

The event was held in collaboration with Sohail University and Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi.

Dr Ahmed was given the award in recognition of his services in the field of social sciences, human rights, psychiatry and the promotion of mental health care in the country.

Under his patronship, PAMH has been serving the ailing humanity for the past more than 50 years and running different projects including free services at Depot Line clinic where qualified psychiatrists and psychologists are providing consultation and free medications.

Dr Syed Ali Wasif presented the history of PAMH while Dr Muzaffar Hussain talked about his personal experiences related with the life of Prof Haroon Ahmed.

Dr Tariq Sohail, Dr Abdullah Mangi, Sultana Siddiqui, Zubeida Mustafa, Attiya Dawood, Niilofur Farrukh, Anis Haroon shared their reminiscences, while poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz was recited by Khalid Ahmed and Sheema Kermani.

Dr Syed Jaffar Ahmed moderated the programme, which was concluded with the chorus and kalam of Sufi Saint Shah Latif by a group of singers from Bhit Shah.
