MARDAN: Khan Aziz Khan, the youngest son of Khan Bahadur Sarfaraz Khan of Mardan, passed away peacefully a day ago. He was in his late 80s.

Khan Aziz Sarfaraz Khan was the great-great-grandson of Amir Dost Mohammed Khan, the founder of the Muhammadzai Dynasty of Afghanistan, besides being the youngest brother of late Begum Zari Sarfaraz, an internationally acclaimed philanthropist, and Late Mir Afzal Khan, the former chief minister of the erstwhile North-West Frontier Province, a well respected politician of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Aziz Sarfaraz Khan was one of the prominent alumnus of the Aitchison College, Lahore, who preferred to stay away from politics and instead dedicated his life to the family and to low-key social welfare activities, being a major donor to many charitable organisations in his lifetime. He was extremely soft-spoken and kind human being, who remained a loyal brother, caring husband, passionate father and affectionate grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Begum Laila Haroon Sarfaraz Khan, son Khan Abbas Sarfaraz Khan, the former federal minister, daughter Zarmina Khan and Najida Khan.

His funeral will be held on the premises of their ancestral hujra of Khan Bahadur Sarfaraz Khan at Mardan Khas on October 5. He would be laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Mardan.
