NEW DELHI: Six Pakistani prisoners of war were killed and 19 wounded today [Oct 3] in a camp in Madhya Pradesh, Central India, when Police fired on a “rebellious group” of prisoners, it was announced here. The announcement said the group had tried to overpower a brigadier, and his escort of armed policemen. They succeeded in inflicting bayonet wounds on the Deputy Commandant, and another military officer. The escort opened fire in self-defence, and killed six prisoners of war... . One of the escort policemen was also accidentally wounded... .

According to an All-India Radio version, some prisoners of war, taking advantage of the scuffles, tried to escape, whereupon the security guards opened fire. The Indian GOC of the area has visited the site of shooting and ordered ... an inquiry. The announcement added that a representative of the International Red Cross Committee had been informed of the incident and invited to visit the camp. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Sukkur,] Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sind Minister for Revenue, Law and Agriculture, today [Oct 3] said that land grant forms had been supplied to all Deputy Commissioners and landless Haris would start getting lands from this month.
