LAHORE: District administration on Monday constituted five special squads to control smog in the city.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali chaired a meeting to review the anti-smog measures.

During the meeting, the DC constituted five anti-smog squads and the deputy director, environment, was made focal person of the squads.

He said each squad would be led by an environment inspector and visit 50 industrial units in the city in a week.

He said the squads would also check the quality of the fuel being used to run the industry, and warned that action would be taken if any unit was found using low-quality fuel and causing smog.

The DC said the squads were authorised to penalise the industrial units violating the anti-smog laws and were also directed to impose fine on the vehicles emitting smoke, adding that such vehicles might be impounded.

He said action would also be taken against the people burning garbage and crops stubble.

He said the focal person was directed to prepare a report about anti-smog action on a daily basis and submit the report to his office.
