LAKKI MARWAT: The health department will begin a campaign on Monday (today) to vaccinate children against typhoid in Bannu district.

Health department’s focal person Dr Imran, briefing journalists about preparations for the anti-typhoid campaign on Sunday, said 19 teams had been formed to vaccinate 23,932 children from nine months to 15 years.

“The drive will run from Oct 3 to 15 in the urban union councils of the district,” he maintained.

Flanked by Expanded Programme on Immunisation coordinator Dr Sajid, Dr Imran said children would also get anti-polio vaccine during the drive.

He said vaccinators would be provided foolproof security and the health department with the support of stakeholders would monitor the drive to make it a success.

He asked clerics, teachers and members of civil society to cooperate with the health department in creating awareness about the usefulness of vaccines.

The health official said the vaccines had no side effects, and parents should ensure vaccination of their children.

POST OFFICE LOOTED: Four armed men looted cash from a post office in Ghaznikhel town of Lakki Marwat the other day.

Police said the armed bandits entered the post office functioning in a rented building, made the staffers and pensioners hostage at gunpoint and took away over Rs2 million with them.

They said the men also fired in the air before leaving the place.

The post office’s postmaster Amir Nawaz told the police that he along with postman Inamullah was busy in disbursement of pension among pensioners when four armed men entered the building.

“The armed men beat us up with buts of rifles and asked us and others not to move and be silent,” he maintained.

Mr Nawaz said the armed men snatched over Rs2 million and escaped on motorcycles after firing in the air. The police said DPO Ziauddin Ahmed along with a contingent reached the place and launched a search for bandits.

They registered a case under relevant sections of law and began investigation.
