Published December 23, 2005

THATTA, Dec 22: A peasant woman identified as Gharib Khatoon, 27, died of bullet wound while trying to stop her brother from committing suicide in the Ali Bahar village, seven kilometres off here, on Thursday. The angry young man, Vikio Soomro, also instantly shot him with his revolver after seeing his sister in a pool of blood. Later, he breathed his last at the Makli Civil Hospital.

Dozens of villagers drove both the critically injured in vehicles to the hospital where doctors pronounced both of them dead.

The bodies were forcibly taken away from the hospital without allowing the doctors to conduct the post-mortem.

The SHO of Keenjhar, Mohammad Yaqoob Buriro, said that efforts were being made to convince the heirs of the deceased to conduct the post-mortem so that a formal FIR could be lodged. The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained immediately.
