KARACHI: The Sindh government on Thursday imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province on account of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Husain (RA) to be observed on Saturday.

A notification issued by the home department said that the decision was taken on the recommendation of Sindh police and Rangers.

Both the law enforcement agencies said that religious processions and congregations would be held on the occasion throughout the province, and apprehended that attacks by miscreants could not be ruled out. Therefore, a ban on pillion riding was recommended, they said.

The ban would not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies, security agencies in uniform and employees of essential services, the home department notification said.
