KARACHI: Work to lay two new imported synthetic turfs including a five-a-side at the Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) Sports Complex has commenced and is expected to be completed by mid of next month.

The ‘Tiger’ turfs have been imported from England by the Sindh government at a cost of approximately Rs100 million.

The full size worn out turf that was handed over to KHA by Pakistan Hockey Federation was laid about five years ago following installation of a new pitch at the Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium in the city.

The metropolis will now have four active venues having the facilities of AstroTurfs with the other being Dr M.A. Shah, Olympian Islahuddin hockey ground and the Customs sports complex.

Three other turfs that were laid in the UBL sports complex, Pakistan Steel and DHA hockey stadium long ago are of no use now.

Meanwhile, construction of a 36-room five-star hostel is also in full swing at KHA Sports Complex under the supervision of engineers of Sindh government.
