For those who have watched the Secret Life of Pets 2 and loved the scene where ‘Snowball the Rabbit’ tries to turn into Superman, DC LEAGUE OF SUPER PETS is the right film. Featuring Superman’s dog Krypto, DC’s latest animated film is a story of power, teamwork and sacrifice.

The story of this film takes place in the present day, where Krypto and Superman work as a team to keep everyone safe from the bad guys. Things turn from good to worse when a very powerful supervillain uses green Kryptonite to take away Superman’s powers and holds him and the rest of the Justice League captive. Krypto has to persuade newbie superheroes into saving the world and his friends.

Voiced by Dwayne Johnson, a powerless Krypto has to work with animals who got superpowers by chance. The unusual team comprises a hound named Ace, who has the voice of the comic actor Kevin Hart, a shape-shifter called PB, a turtle named Merton, who can now run as fast as The Flash, and a squirrel ‘Chip’, who gains electric-powers.

For a change, the DC Superheroes are in supporting roles here, with Superman being voiced by John Krasinki, Olivia Wilde dubs Lois Lane, and the evergreen Keanu Reeves plays Batman. A hairless guinea pig, Lulu is the main antagonist here who lives in the same animal shelter as Ace, PB, Merton and Chip, but before relocating to the place, had spent some time in Lex Luthor’s lab. So, when she gains superpowers, Lulu plans for world domination owing much to her crush on Lex.

The movie now only explains Krypto’s origin — puppy Krypto sneaked into Kal El’s spaceship before it launched — to give the future Clark Kent/Superboy company. His troublesome attitude begins when he learns that he is going to lose ‘best friend’ status to Lois Lane. On the other hand, Ace has also been wronged by his former owners, and has similarities in personality with Batman.

There are laughable parts when Superman tosses a squeaky Batman toy to Krypto, Krypto with glasses talks to non-super animals, the ‘pets’ caged in a shop get super-powers and when Ace and Batman bond together.

Co-directed and co-written by Jared Stern, the one-hour and forty-five-minute movie is fun for the whole family. Jared Stern wrote The Lego Batman movie and the Lego Ninjago movie, before turning into producer and director for this one. Kids have always seen the Justice League save the world, watch this animated film to see how the Justice League is saved.
