Units seek restoration of gas supply

Published December 20, 2005

FAISALABAD, Dec 19: Unannounced gas load-shedding for the last four days has caused closure of a score of industrial units situated on Faisalabad-Sheikhupura Road and its adjoining areas rendering thousands of workers jobless.

While strongly protesting the interruption in the gas supply by the SNGPL, the industrialists have demanded Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to intervene in the matter to save these units from total collapse.

In a memorandum faxed on Monday to the prime minister and the federal minister for petroleum, various industrialist bodies had protested against the disconnection of gas supply to their units without any prior notice.

They said that due to unscheduled shutdown of gas the exporters of the area would not be able to meet their export orders on time which would cause them irreparable financial losses.

They demanded immediate restoration of gas supply and urged the SNGPL authorities to issue at least one week’s prior notice for any future gas load-shedding.
