DERA GHAZI KHAN, Dec 16: A lack of coordination between the Dera Ghazi Khan tehsil nazim and urban union councils’ nazims of the rival group over the anti-encroachment campaign and allotment of vacant plots in the city has led to serious differences in the local administration ranks.

The rival group has criticized the allotment of vacant plots while the tehsil nazim claims that he is authorized to do so under the Local Government Ordinance.

According to reports, five of the seven nazims of urban union councils have conducted news conferences against Tehsil Nazim Mahmood Qadir Leghari over the anti-encroachment campaign and allotment of vacant plots in every square/chowk of the city, which were only for greenbelts. They have described publishing of tender notice as illegal.

They contend that the nazim has no authority to allot the plots without the tehsil council’s approval. The nazim, they allege, is obliging his cronies by allotting plots and in the anti-encroachment drive he did not take them along. Only one nazim of the Leghari group was with him.

When contacted, the tehsil nazim told Dawn that the Local Government Ordinance of 2000 (section 124) allowed him to do important assignments with the approval of the council.
