FARMERS HAVE ISSUES: While agriculture sector plays a key role in Pakistan’s economy, the government has failed to take due care of the farmers. The prices of fertiliser, equipment, fuel and pesticides have gone through the roof. Besides lashing the poor people with loadshedding, the government has done away with subsidy on electricity. The government must provide incentives to the farmers so they continue to play their role in the country’s development.

STOP KILLING DEER: Despite a ban on hunting birds and deer in Tharparkar, the Sindh Wildlife Department has failed to stop the hunters. A few days ago, eight deer of rare species were brutally hunted down in Tharparkar. The locals love these creatures like their own children. They protested against the illegal hunting and the negligence of the relevant authorities. It is hoped that the department would wake up and take measures to stop the practice.

HOLDING HORSES: There is immense pressure on students to attend a university as it is considered the key to success. Parents go beyond their limits to get their children enrolled into some top-notch university. This creates stress and performance anxiety among the students. Research suggests 80 per cent students experience stress, pressure and frustration. Both parents and students need to hold their horses and focus on learning and understanding instead of engaging in unnecessary competitions.

COSTLY RUNWAY: An aircraft parking bay of the newly-built Islamabad International Airport recently developed a depression allegedly due to heavy weight of aircraft and high temperature. The defect, however, occurred owing to the substandard material and lack of professionalism. Besides, the distance between two parallel runways is merely 200 metres as against 1km mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
