Thinkers Dreamers and Doers: People, Places and Ideas of Our Time

Arif Azad

Although a medical doctor, the author writes extensively on topics ranging from current affairs and history, to books, films and music. His latest work is a collection of writings previously published in various newspapers, in which he reflects thoughtfully and analytically on — as the subtitle suggests — remarkable people, out-of-the-way places and innovative points of view.

Our Travels with Our Children to India

Abdul Khaliq Kaifi

Every three years or so, beginning in 1974, the India-born author takes his German family to the land of his birth. His memoirs show how travel has changed in the past 50 years (flying to India meant first taking the train to Holland), the notions his extended family had of a permanently “smoking and drinking whisky” white wife and his little children’s surprise when their Hindu grandmother draws a swastika to bless a harvest of rice.
