KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted before the Sindh High Court that delimitations for local government constituencies had been carried out by delimitation committees in accordance with relevant law.
In its comments, the ECP maintained that the determination, reconstitution and demarcation of local councils were the sole domain of the Sindh government as provided under Section 8, 9 & 10 of the Sindh Local Government Act, 2013.
It said that under the law, a voter may file objections within 15 days of delimitation of constituencies by a delimitation committee against the delimitation authority and the objections must be decided within 30 days from the date of delimitation.
The ECP, which filed comments on a set of petitions of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan against delimitations and demarcations for LG polls, stated the petitions were not maintainable and being devoid of merit.
A two-judge SHC bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Arshad Hussain Khan took the comments on record and adjourned the hearing till July 14.
