PESHAWAR, Dec 13: Peshawar University Vice-Chancellor Mumtaz Gul on Tuesday said that the population department should do more to spread awareness among people about the burden of growing population on resources.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a seminar held at the university for religious scholars. Emphasizing the role of ulema in making the population programme a success, Mr Gul said that without their cooperation it would not be possible for the population department to achieve its targets.

He said it was also a prime responsibility of the government to educate and train the youth and help them become useful citizens. Giving the example of China, the vice-chancellor said that they had a big population but they never let it become a problem for them as they were generating resources regularly.
