LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi says the sitting government should not use law enforcement agencies against the opposition and ensure that no development scheme or funds are sanctioned for constituencies where by-election is due on July 17.

In a statement on Sunday, Mr Elahi said it was responsibility of all major parties – PTI, PML-Q and PML-N – to implement the orders of the Supreme Court.

Mr Elahi said the Punjab Assembly session would be held in accordance with the court orders.

Mr Elahi said Hamza Shehbaz had also assured the Supreme Court that he and his cabinet would complete the process of by-election in a fair and transparent manner in the light of the decision.
