KARACHI, Dec 13: The seven-party Sindhi nationalists alliance — Sindh Qaumi Ittehad (SQI)— is an independent alliance and committed to fight for the rights of Sindhis, said Jeay Sindh Mahaz-J leader Abdul Khaliq Junejo.

He said that the idea of any broader alliance of nationalist forces in the country did not come under discussion in the meeting as the alliance leaders deliberated Sindh related issues only in view of the recent remarks by President Musharraf regarding Kalabagh dam issue.

Mr Junejo who represented his own faction of JSM in the seven-party Sindhi nationalists alliance categorically stated that the new alliance has nothing to do with Ponam despite the fact two important parties of the alliance were the part of the Ponam.

About the Dec 20 anti-Kalabagh dam strike call given by Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), he said that the new alliance had not taken any decision on the matter.
