SHANGLA: Three members of a family, including a woman, were killed and two children injured when a jeep fell into a ravine at Naredary area in Kana tehsil here on Thursday.

Local police told this correspondent that a jeep was going to Belkanai from Naredary when it fell into the ravine. As a result, a woman and two other persons of the same family were critically injured.

They said that the local people of the nearby houses rushed to the scene and retrieved the injured. They said that two of the injured succumbed to their injuries on the way and one at the hospital in Belkanai area.

The police said the two injured children aged 3 and 7 were referred to the Saidu Teaching Hospital in Swat after initial treatment at the district headquarters hospital, Alpuri. The police identified the deceased as Jehan Wara, Abdul Munaf and Humayun Khan and the injured children as Umar Hayat, 7, and Nasira Bibi, 3.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner, Chakesar, Mohammad Hamid Sadiq on Thursday conducted raids in Chakesar bazaar and removed encroachments, including pushcarts and temporary huts, from the footpaths.

Mr Sadiq accompanied by TMO Fazal Hamid, police and encroachment squad conducted the raids following public complaints to clear the footpaths for facilitating the pedestrians.
