KARACHI: Eidul Azha will be celebrated in the country on July 10, as Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad announced the Zilhaj moon was not sighted on Wednesday.

Talking to the media at Met Office after chairing a committee’s meeting, he said credible evidences as per Sharia were not received from different cities regarding the sighting of Zilhaj moon. “Therefore, the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee officially announces the commencement of the month of Zilhaj from July 1,” he added.

“We met all due formalities,” he said. “We contacted our regional offices and also our designated people in different towns and districts. The Met Office here [in Karachi] provided every possible technical support. The conditions in different parts of the country were quite overcast. It was consensual decision after thorough deliberation that moon was not sighted in any part of the country today.”

The 10th Zilhaj, he said, would fall on July 10 when the Eid will be celebrated across Pakistan.
