KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho on Tuesday inaugurated a new state-of-the-art MRI machine at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Trauma Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

At a ceremony to mark five-year “successful” trauma management and treatment, the provincial minister also lauded the efforts of the health facility and called it a standard of medical services for other public sector hospitals.

“SMBB Trauma Centre should be the standard by which other trauma centres be measured and managed,” she said while addressing the ceremony. “This centre should act as a parent institute to other trauma response centres so we can progress further in treating trauma injuries in the province.”

She said that road traffic injuries are the primary cause for most of the trauma injuries in Sindh, which is why the health department had been working on Rapid Response Centres along highways so that all such injuries can be attended to immediately, offered emergency care and then shifted to the nearest tertiary hospitals.
