PESHAWAR: The transgender community has expressed concern about the violent incidents against it in different districts and demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to ensure their protection.

Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the transgender association’s provincial president Arzu Khan said four members of the community had been killed during the past six months. But, she regretted that in most cases the suspected killers could not be arrested till date.

“Our people have been asked to leave Mardan without any reason,” she said and demanded of Chief Minister Mahmood Khan to take notice of their problems.

Besides, she opposed using NGOs to spend funds announced for transgender persons’ welfare, and demanded that the community should be directly involved in the process to avoid misuse of public money.

Arzu Khan also demanded action against the Mardan police personal for allegedly harassing the transgender persons.
