FAISALABAD, Dec 12: The University of Agriculture (UoA) will introduce three new disciplines — MScs in water resources engineering, environmental engineering and industrial engineering — in the faculty of agricultural engineering next year.

This was claimed by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bashir Ahmed while speaking to the participants of an ‘engineers night’ organized by the young agricultural engineers here on Monday.

He said another discipline — MSc food science — would also be initiated later, for which discussions were under way.

The VC said investment in engineering sector in Pakistan was only one per cent against 70 per cent in the rest of the world.

He said the engineers should come forward and introduce new technologies to meet the challenge of agricultural productivity.

Engineering Field, Punjab Director-General Dr Rafiqur Rehman said the provincial government was utilizing its resources for the promotion of agriculture. He said his department was going to launch engineering extension services and resistively meter engineering.

Water Management, Punjab Director-General Mushtaq Ahmed Gill said that scientists should have to focus on conservation agriculture instead of conservative agriculture.

A local engineering industrialist, Sultan Ahmed Noorani, offered one-year internship programme to MSc students from the faculty of agricultural engineering and urged the young engineers to join agricultural industry for enhancement of their skills.

Faculty of Agricultural Engineering Dean Dr Jahangir Khan Sial highlighted the new programmes which were being launched for the promotion of agricultural machinery.
