LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly session, convened on the orders of the governor, will resume its proceedings at Aiwan-i-Iqbal after a two-day break on Monday afternoon (today).

In its previous sitting on Friday, the house had passed two bills, clipping certain powers of the speaker and of the assembly secretary in administrative affairs. The Provincial Assembly of the Punjab Privileges (Amendment) Bill 2022 was unanimously adopted by the house, robbing Speaker Parvez Elahi of his judicial powers to hand down six-month jail to any civil servant found guilty of breaching any privilege of a member of the house.

The speaker had secured the powers through the Privileges Act 2020.

Through the Provincial Assembly Secretariat Services Bill 2022, the house enacted an ordinance into a law earlier promulgated by the governor to put the assembly back under the administrative control of the Punjab Law Department, restoring the 2019 situation.
