RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal visited various areas near Leh Nullah and reviewed arrangements being made ahead of rains expected later this month.
He expressed his displeasure over the cleanliness around Leh Nullah and directed the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) to clean it within four days.
He also asked the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to remove all encroachments from the banks of the nullah.
The agencies concerned have been placed on high alert while civic bodies and Rescue 1122 will make coordinated efforts in case of flooding in the nullah.
Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Managing Director Tanveer Ahmed, RWMC Managing Director Awais Manzoor Tarrar and other officials were also present.
The commissioner directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to keep its system updated and inform people about the situation in a timely manner. Accumulation of water anywhere should not affect the routine life, he said.
In addition to this, Mr Mengal said, other areas where the risk of flooding was high such as Ratta Amral, Katarian, Tipu Road, Dhoke Najju, Gawalmandi and Ziaul Haq Colony should be given special attention so that water does not accumulate in low-lying areas.
