GHALANAI/KOHAT: Lumpy skin disease (LSD) has so far infected 125 cattle in Mohmand tribal district, of which 28 have recovered and 97 are still under treatment.

District director livestock Dr Abdur Raziq Safi said this while talking to Dawn here on Thursday.

According to the department’s record, only three cattle have died of the disease so far. On Thursday, two more cases were reported and 375 animals vaccinated.

The highest number of cases has been reported in Ekkaghund tehsil where 54 cattle were affected by LSD, followed by Khwezai 34 cases and Baizai tehsil 40 cases.

Dr Safi urged the tribesmen to adopt preventive measures so as to protect their livestock.

In Kohat, the livestock department received 10,000 doses of vaccine of lumpy skin disease for vaccinating sacrificial animals being sold for Eid to control spread of the infection.

A statement issued here said that additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed while chairing a meeting said that the staff had been deployed at the entry points of Shakardarra and Khushalgarh checkposts with Punjab to spray and vaccinate the cattle. He said they had so far vaccinated 4,000 animals.
