TOBA TEK SINGH: A food safety team of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized 80kg of unwholesome meat from a big department store on the Sheikhupura Road near Nishatabad in Faisalabad on Saturday.

An official of the authority said the meat was seized during a raid. He said it was giving off a foul smell and it had been disposed of.

STRIKE: The All Pakistan Universities Basic Payscale Teachers Association (APUBTA) has announced holding a sit-in in front of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) headquarters in Islamabad on June 15.

Dr Hafsa Jamshed, the in-charge of Faisalabad chapter of the APUBTA, said the universities’ BPS teachers were demanding equal promotion opportunities as enshrined in the ordinance whereas the HEC was continuously violating the ordinance and denying these teachers right to promotion. She said the HEC could not fulfill its commitment as usual and the teachers had been forced to go for a sit-in.

Dr Jamshed said promotion with backdated benefits was the only solution to resolve the issues of the employees. She said the teachers were committed to get their legitimate rights and they would not postpone their protest this time.
