KARACHI: Legal proceedings remained suspended in the City Court a strike by lawyers in protest against District and Sessions’ Judge (East) Khalid Hussain Shahani over release of watchman.

The lawyers and judicial staffers clashed on the court premises leaving six lawyers injured, witnesses told Dawn.

The witnesses and lawyers said they had given a call for a boycott of legal proceedings to protest against District and Sessions’ Judge Shahani on whose directives a watchman, Faisal, was released by the courts police on Wednesday.

Advocate Abdul Irfan Raja claimed that watchman Faisal was involved in the theft and surveillance of lawyers.

Karachi Bar Association’s general secretary Naeem Memon said that the lawyers did not appear in courts.

Hundreds of litigants and undertrial prisoners faced hardships due to the strike.

Mr Memon alleged that the judicial staffers had closed the gate to the district East court, which led to a clash between lawyers and judicial employees.
