KARACHI: A young man died under controversial circumstances when a police team raided his residence and he allegedly jumped from his third-floor apartment to what police called avoid his arrest.
South SSP (Investigation) Dr Mohammed Imran Khan said that the Clifton investigation police went to arrest Usman Rauf, 34, who was an absconding suspect in a fraud case registered against him last year.
He said the complainant of the case informed the police about the presence of the suspect. As the police team reached Askari Apartments in Saddar and knocked at the door, the suspect’s brother and mother took the police party inside their flat and offered water to them.
The family told the police that the suspect was not at home, the SSP said, adding that the police mobile van present there was informed by a citizen that someone had jumped from a third-floor flat.
The police found the suspect in a wounded condition and moved him to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where he died during treatment, he said.
The SSP said that Usman was nominated in several FIRs.
