FAISALABAD, Dec 8: PPP MPA Raja Riaz Ahmad has alleged that the provincial government is creating hurdles in the way of ARD-backed District Nazim Rana Zahid Tauseef to force him to join the ruling party. He said at a news conference here on Thursday the law and order situation had been deteriorating with every passing day due to poor performance of the police.
He said the government had failed to provide basic amenities like water, drainage, construction of streets and roads to the people despite four-year tenure of previous local council.
Mr Tauseef who was supported by the ARD was being forced to change his loyalty and none of his subordinates was implementing his orders, he added.
He said anti-encroachment drive in the eight bazaars and adjoining markets had been launched by the Lyallpur Town Administration without any plan and the traders and vendors were being maltreated. The town administration should take all the stakeholders into confidence and brief them on the programme before launching the campaign.
Raja Riaz said former premier Benazir Bhutto would return soon. If she selected Faisalabad for her return, the PPP activists would arrange a historical reception.
UPLIFT PLAN: Iqbal Town nazim Sajjad Haider Cheema has said a plan for the development and beautification of the city and to provide basic civic amenities to the people has been chalked out.
Talking to newsmen, Mr Cheema claimed that his father, former city nazim Mumtaz Cheema, had rendered commendable services for modernization of city and constructed all important roads.
He said some of the roads in the city areas and villages of Iqbal Town would be constructed immediately after the release of funds by the Punjab government.
He said every street would be bricklined and new streetlights be installed. Strict action would be taken against the employee found taking bribe, he added.
He said a survey had been conducted to judge the problems of the people. Infrastructure like streetlights, roads, water supply and drainage would be provided in far flung rural areas, he added.
Mr Cheema said Wasa authorities had been asked to finalize the plan for provision of potable water in the Iqbal Town.
Development funds would be spent without any discrimination. The prime minister and the chief minister would be requested for the release of special grants for the Iqbal Town for beautification of the town, he added.
