SWABI/LAKKI MARWAT: Fire destroyed trees over a large area in old graveyard of Karnal Sher Khan village of Swabi on Tuesday, while forest fire in the mountains of Wazir subdivision in Bannu was extinguished after hectic efforts of two days.

In Swabi, fire destroyed trees over a large area in old graveyard of Karnal Sher Khan village. The people informed the rescue officials and the firefighters succeeded to control the fire after a few hours of efforts.

In the second incident, fire broke out in a warehouse in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate on Tuesday.

The rescue team from Topi tehsil reached the Gadoon estate and controlled the blaze before it could spread to the industrial units.

In a separate incident, the firefighters of Rescue 1122 service extinguished the forest fire in the mountains of Wazir subdivision in Bannu on Tuesday.

An official said that the fire in the mountainous forest in Gungikhel Kallay of merged tribal area started on Sunday, prompting deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi to send a team of firefighters there.

He said that additional assistant commissioners Zaman Khan and Nasir Khayyam supervised the fire extinguishing operation.

The official said that the firefighters covered a two-hour long distance on foot to reach the mountainous area where they doused the fire through the starvation process.

He said that the local population remained safe, but the fire destroyed forest over a vast area.
