BAJAUR: Members of Gudkhel tribe of Nawagai tehsil on Tuesday ended boycott of the ongoing anti-polio campaign after district administration ordered the relevant department to launch a water supply scheme for the area.

On Monday, the tribesmen had refused vaccination of their children in protest against non-availability of dirking water, according to a statement.

Taking notice of the boycott, deputy commissioner Ifikhar Alam sent a team led by additional assistant commissioner, Nawagai, Bilal Naseer to the locality to convince the villagers to end boycott.

The tribesmen told the officials that lack of water had forced them to boycott the polio drive. The officials, however, described their move unjustified.

On the occasion, the additional assistant commissioner issued a letter of recommendation to the public health department for resolving the water issue of the tribesmen.

After the assurance, the villagers ended boycott of the anti-polio drive.

VOTERS’ REGISTRATION: The election commission has launched voters’ verification and registration drive, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

The statement said the local election commission office had started the campaign on May 21, which would continue till June 19 across the district.

It said the commission had set up 127 display centres in government schools to facilitate voters’ verification and registration.
