KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead and his accomplice arrested in an alleged encounter in Sharifabad early on Monday morning, police said.

Area SHO Abdul Khaliq Ansari said three armed muggers had robbed a curtain shop owner near Al-Karam Square and escaped towards F.C. Area apparently to commit another robbery.

He said a police patrol signalled them to stop for checking. But in a bid to flee, they resorted to firing and in an exchange of gunfire one of the suspects, identified as Waqas alias Mana Shinti, got killed.

Another suspect, identified as Ahmed Raza alias Fauji, was arrested, but their third accomplice fled, said the officer.

Police claimed to have recovered two TT pistols, one motorbike, four snatched cell phones and some cash from them.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The SHO claimed that there were 10 and eight FIRs registered against deceased Waqas and Raza at different police stations, respectively.
