RAWALPINDI: International Nurses Day was observed on Thursday to celebrate contributions and efforts of nurses that they make towards fighting pandemics and illnesses.

Nurses play a huge role towards fighting the spread of diseases, which is why people must respect them, this was pointed out by nurses of three government-run hospitals of the city. They had gathered at Holy Family Hospital (HFH) to observe the day. Later, they participated in a walk led by World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Representative Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala and Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Umar.

The day marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

This year, the day is being observed under the theme ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health’, which focuses on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world.

Participants of the walk took a round of the university and HFH.
