MANSEHRA: A transgender person was shot and critically injured for blocking a house trespass bid in Upper Channia area here on Tuesday night.

President of the Hazara Transgender Persons Association Nadra Khan told reporters here on Wednesday that Mohammad Huzaifa fired bullets at Amir alias Danee over denial of entry to his Bypass Road house.

She said the attacker, who was a stranger to the transgender person, wanted to enter the house for sexual assault.

Ms Nadra said the gun attack injured Amir, who was taken to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital but was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, due to critical condition.

She said the life of transgender person, who suffered bullet wounds, was in danger.

The association leader said Mansehra was fast becoming an unsafe place for transgender persons to live as four members of the community were killed and several injured in recent months.

She said transgender person Sameera was gunned down and four injured in an attack before the start of Ramazan.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara Range, Mirvais Niaz has urged retired police officers to join the dispute resolution councils to serve people.

“DRCs are facilitating the out-of-court settlement of issues, even cognisable offenses. The former police officers can further the cause of dispute resolution by joining DRCs,” he told a farewell reception hosted for retiring Police Training School principal Iftikhar Khan on Wednesday.

The DIG said effective policing was increasing the respect of the police officers and personnel in the eyes of the people.
