MUZAFFARGARH: The Punjab government has decided to restructure the border military police (BMP) in Dera Ghazi Khan’s tribal areas.

The decision was taken at a virtual meeting, attended by MPA Awais Leghari, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Syed Ali Murtaza, Additional Chief Secretary (South Punjab) Saqib Zafar, Additional IGP Ehsan Sadiq, DG Khan Commissioner Liaquat Chattha and RPO Waqas Nazir.

MPA Leghari said the people of Koh-i-Suleman were very peaceful and the government would maintain Baloch traditions in the tribal area.

He said the new recruitment would be done in the BMP through the Public Service Commission as tourism can be promoted in the tribal area and Fort Munro only if there was law and order in the region.

Mr Zafar said that 307 primary, 36 middle and 16 high schools had been established in the tribal area while roads and bridges in the area were in the best condition.

Additional IGP Sadiq said the Punjab police would train the BMP and equip it with the latest weapons.

The commissioner said the BMP had established 24 police stations in the area and had 32 vehicles.

Mr Chattha said that Koh-i-Suleman consisted of 6,475 square kilometres.

OLD HOME: The Multan district administration opened the building of an ‘Old Age Home’ in Shamsabad Colony for homeless elderly citizens.

Khwaja Umair Mahmood and chamber officials Khwaja Sohail Tufail, Naveed Iqbal Chughtai, Mian Rashid Iqbal and Sheikh Faisal Saeed also attended the function.

“The new old age home will accommodate 70 old citizens and women,” the deputy commissioner said.
