Tribesman appeals for justice

PESHAWAR, Dec 6: Tribesman Yaqoob Khan of Bajaur Agency Khar on Tuesday appealed to President Musharraf and the Inspector General of FC to stop what he said was illegal construction by Bajaur Scouts on his land. “The Bajaur Scouts had occupied my land in 1998 which I had purchased from Nawab Abdul Subhan Khan of Khar after consulting the civil court of Khar under the FCR. The scouts bypassed the court and started construction on the land,” Yaqoob Khan told reporters in a news conference.

He said that despite the fact that the case was in the court, the scouts had started construction to strengthen ‘occupation’ on the land.

“I and my family will commit suicide if the Bajaur Scouts continued injustice with my family and do not stop their illegal construction on my land,” he said.

He said the land was the only source income for his family.

“I went to the FC headquarters and requested the high authorities for justice. They wrote a letter to the Bajaur Scouts on Nov 1, 2002, asking scouts not to construct on the land until final decision, which they accepted,” Yaqoob Khan said.

He alleged that after the issuance of the letter from the FC authority, the scouts had sent him a letter and threatened him not to approach any high authority in future. “Being a poor man, I cannot compete them, therefore, I went to court for legal help.”—PPI
