KARACHI: Rash and negligent driving on Eid holidays claimed lives of eight people and injuries to 39 others, including women and children, police and rescue services officials said on Thursday.

Most of the victims were bike-riders. DIG Traffic, Dr Maqsood Ahmed said, pointing out that the tragic accidents appeared to be outcome of bike and car racing.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that a young bike-riders was on his way to Malir Cantonment from Motorway when an unknown vehicle knocked him down. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The victim was yet to be identified.

A 28-year old, Danish, died when he fell down from apparently over-speeding two-wheeler on Mauripur Road. In another incident in Landhi area, a 25-year old bike-rider, Majeed, died when he fell down on a bridge.

An 18-year old youth, Hamadullah, died of head injuries when he fell down from his two-wheeler in Baldia Town near Murshid hospital.

Two unknown young man riding a motorbike were killed when an unknown vehicle hit and killed them on Northern Bypass.

A 20-year old youth, Uzair, died when two cars collided on main University Road near Samama Shopping Mall.
