ISLAMABAD: Police have finalised a security and patrolling plan ahead of Eidul Fitr to ensure no untoward incident takes place.

More than 3,500 policemen would perform security duties during Eid and guard religious gatherings in open places, mosques and imambargahs. In this regard, leaves of all officials were cancelled and all were asked to report to their duty points.

The Bomb Disposal Squad would conduct checking of various areas and parking will not be allowed near worship places or congregations.

A control room was also set up at Islamabad Safe City to monitor the city with the help of safe city cameras. The police have also been deployed at markets and public places and commandos would patrol markets, providing security to 1,032 mosques and 28 imambargahs.

A contingent of Anti-Terrorist Squad and Counter Terrorism Department would be on high alert. Wheelies, rioting, driving of unregistered motorcycles and celebratory firing have been strictly prohibited in the city and special checkpoints have been established to prevent such incidents.

All SHOs have been directed to hold meetings and brief security guards in their respective areas for prevention of crime. People have been urged to turn on the lights before leaving the house and ask their neighbours to be alert.

Rawalpindi

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Monday completed all arrangements for Eidul Fitr.

Strict security arrangements will be in place on the occasion. All police officials have been assigned places where Eid congregations are scheduled to be held. The administrations of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment boards are cleaning roads and streets.

The RWMC has cancelled Eid holidays of around 1,500 sanitation workers, officials, including officers of the sanitation department. The staff will work in three shifts and around 100 vehicles of the department will be in the field for upkeep of roads and streets leading to Eidgahs and mosques.

District administration officials said that they had conducted a cleanliness drive in and around the city’s graveyards to facilitate visitors during Eid days. They said that the sanitation staff had almost cleaned the drains in the city, especially those near mosques.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said Wasa has chalked out a comprehensive plan for smooth operations.

He said that staff will work during holidays under the supervision of the assistant director concerned. All district offices of Wasa at Liaquat Bagh, Commercial Market, Satellite Town, Khyaban-i-Sir Syed, Shamsabad, Moti Mahal and Gulzar-i-Quaid will remain open.

He said that the Wasa Integrated Call Centre would also be functioning to register the complaints of consumers. “Consumers can contact any of the district offices in case they have a complaint,” he said.

Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) made arrangements for smooth supply of water to residents during Eid. The officials said that staff had been deployed at tube wells in this regard.

RCB has categorised the cantonment into zones A, B and C. An RCB official said the area’s supervisors, inspectors and zonal chief would be responsible for the upkeep of their respective areas during Eid.
