MUZAFFARGARH: A 10th class student was allegedly tortured to death by a landlord, who, according to the victim’s family, later hanged his body from a tree to portray the boy’s “murder” as suicide in Jagmal area of Alipur, some 80km from here.

As per the family of the victim, Mohsin (15), a student of 10th class, was grazing his goats when one of these entered the field of one Faiz Ghazlani.

The family alleged that the enraged landlord subjected the boy to severe torture, resulting in his death on the spot.

They said that to conceal his crime, Ghazlani with the help of his servants, hanged the victim’s body from a tree to make the incident look like suicide. The family added that a “fake” suicide note was also found near the body.

The family alleged that the police were favouring the suspect and Alipur DSP Munawar Buzdar was reluctant to take action against Ghazlani.

They said that immediately after the boy’s “murder”, the locals nabbed Ghazlani and his servants and called the police. However, they said the police reached the spot after some three hours and the suspects were handed over to them.

In protest against the alleged partiality of the police, the locals, including the victim’s family members, staged a demonstration, demanding action against the suspect and his servants.

However, the district police officer later told Dawn that an FIR had been registered against the suspects and case was being investigated on merit.

The body of the victim was lying in the hospital because of delay by police in completing the legal formalities for conducting the postmortem examination.
