KARACHI, Dec 5: The Karachi Transport-owners’ Federation on Monday demanded the government to immediately announce cut in oil prices and rein in the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC). The federation’s Chairman, Malik Ahmed Khan, President Raja Muhammad Siddique, and other office bearers, in a joint statement, said the transport business was on the verge of collapse due to an unprecedented hike in oil prices.

They said that if the government failed to give attention to the sector, public transport vehicles would soon begin going off roads.

They warned that they were fully capable to lock horns with the OCAC and their magnanimity and patriotism should not be misread. They said ‘enough was enough’ as they had bore too much.

They appealed to President Pervez Musharraf to take a serious notice of the ‘highhandedness’ of the OCAC in the best interest of the country.

They warned that if the government failed to rein in the OCAC, the situation could take a worse turn.

They announced that they would not tolerate any further injustice, and warned that if the OCAC failed to cut fuel prices, substantially, it would itself be responsible for results.

They also warned that if the fuel prices were not brought down they would call an open-ended countrywide transport strike.—PPI
