KARACHI: Commissio­ner Muhammad Iqbal Memon on Wednesday assured religious scholars and ulema that foolproof arrangements were being made for the security of processions and Imambargahs on the occasion of Youm-i-Ali to be observed on Saturday.

At a meeting with Ulema on the arrangements for the occasion, he said that several meeting had been held to chalk-out a coordinated security plan in connection with Youm-i-Ali.

The commissioner directed the deputy commissioner-East to immediately remove an illegal rickshaw stand near the Numaish traffic intersection and make special arrangements for lighting and cleanliness on the routes of the main procession.

He said that lighting and sanitation arrangements would be ensured in Nishtar Park.

He also directed the authorities to ensure emergency arrangements at all major hospitals of the city on Youm-i-Ali.

The commissioner directed the DC-South to complete work on M. A. Jinnah Road near Capri Cinema and remove construction debris within 24 hours.

He said that focal persons, posted at the commissioner control room, would remain in touch with the organisers of the processions and gatherings on 1299.

“In addition, a control room will be set up at Mama Parsi School under DC-South to monitor the main Youm-i-Ali procession,” he added.

The meeting was attended by Syed Shabar Raza, Allama Syed Furqan Haider, Allama Syed Baqir Hussain Zaidi, Shamsul Hassan Shamsi, Syed Hassan Mehdi, DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal, Rangers Brigadier Bilal, DC-South Irshad Ali Sodhar, SSP-East Syed Abdul Rahim and officials of traffic police, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, fire brigade, district municipal corporations and others.
