LAHORE, Dec 4: A sudden-death goal by Jawad Jamil Malik steered Shahpur Sabre to victory when they beat Mixed Bag 8-7 to win the final of the Omroc Cup polo tournament on Sunday.

In all, Jawad scored three goals, eclipsing the four-goal performance by compatriot Asif Tiwana and rivals’ Ahmed Zubair, who scored five goals.

The final started on a fast tempo as Shahpur came out with 3-2 lead.

Asif Tiwana, Jawad and Ali Malik struck a goal each for the winners while Ahmed Zubair and Saeed Aslam Khan reduced the margin for Mixed.

Shahpur increased the lead in the second chukker to 6-2 as Asif banged home three goals to complete hat trick.

He converted two back-to-back 30 yards penalties and scored the third on a field attempt with a long lofted shot.

In the third chukker Mixed staged a come back reducing the lead to 7-4.

Ahmed Zubair scored both the goals for Mixed while Jawad contributed his second for Shahpur.

In the fourth chukker, Mixed stunned Shahpur by levelling the score 7-7 as Ahmed Zubair banged home three goals in a row, two through field attempts and one by capitalising on a 40-yard penalty to leave the result to the extra fifth chukker.

In another tough match, Jeuni beat Sherwood 3- 2 1/2 to earn the third place.
