RAWALPINDI: Civic bodies in the garrison city have chalked out a plan for beautification of main roads while areas bordering Islamabad will be improved by the district administration and the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

In the first phase, beautification work will be carried out jointly by Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and the CDA from Koral Chowk to Kutcheri Chowk and Defence Chowk to T-Chowk in Rawet. This was decided at a joint meeting of the cantonment and district administration authorities with Station Commander Brigadier Salman Nazar in the chair.

According to the plan, Rawal Road to Ammar Chowk and Kutcheri Chowk will be improved by adopting a simplistic yet an elegant symmetrical ambiance theme.

Though the road mainly falls in the Chaklala Cantonment Board, there are portions of walls owned by various officers’ messes, police lines/CPO office, district administration, FBR and Fatima Jinnah Women University.

Identical walls, streetlights and greenbelts will be constructed on both sides of the road. In the second phase, beautification work will be done from Saddar to Motorway Chowk.

There will be a new alignment of Fawara Chowk to Bhabra Bazaar Road. Murree Road from Liaquat Bagh to Fawara Chowk and City Saddar Road will also be realigned. The Parks and Horticulture Authority and the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation will help the district administration in the project.

According to officials, it was decided that Rashid Minhas Road (Kutcheri Chowk to Marrir Chowk) would be made a separate model road with the installation of new LED lights besides developing the greenbelts. The plan also included construction of footpath and drains.
