KARACHI, Dec 4: Residents of Lyari Town have urged the authorities concerned to establish a cattle market in the town’s periphery and have called for a ban on buying and selling of cattle in residential areas.

They said, at present, there was no facility of cattle market in the locality after the old cattle market’s demolition.

According to them, people engaged in the business of cattle selling usually set up temporarily markets either in the congested areas or occupied main roads and footpaths, thereby, creating traffic obstructions and messy conditions in the locality.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the town’s municipal administration is considering establishing a cattle market along the Lyari Expressway route on Mirza Adam Khan Road.

The administration is of the view that the proposed facility would contribute to its income generation by levying a reasonable fee on the sale of cattle.

It was also learnt that the proposal was lying with the town’s legal department.
