SANE OFFER: The army chief of Pakistan has made the first move on the complex Pakistan-India chessboard, and India should seize the opportunity and hold talks to resolve the lingering issues. The army chief’s suggestion of a trilateral dialogue among Islamabad, Beijing and New Delhi to iron out border dispute is encouraging. His statement that India’s relationship with China is a matter of great concern for Pakistan calls for appreciation. India should strike truce with Pakistan.

BIASED COMMENTS: This is with reference to the editorial ‘Democracy subverted’ (April 6), which represented the stance of opposition parties and was critical of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for even minor mistakes. The editorial all but passed a judgment on a matter which, according to several legal experts, has not been unconstitutional. I hope neutrality will prevail in comments and coverage.

MENTAL HEALTH: This refers to the editorial ‘Mental health’ (March 24). We must have an open conversation about mental health problems. Overbearing parents, exaggerated expectations, parental neglect, strict teachers, taunting peers, silent and non-supportive society are some of the common problems that affect mental health. There is a need to educate parents, teachers and other segments of society to treat children with care. When a child is discouraged and maltreated, he may develop a mental disorder later. We must all focus on the wellbeing of our children to reduce such problems in the future.

GHOST STATION: The once bustling Haibat Shaheed Railway Station at Tangwani in Kashmore district, connecting Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan, stands mostly isolated since it was set ablaze in 2007. Before the pandemic, the Khushal Khan Khattak Express kept the station functional, but, today, it remains a ghost station. It deserves official attention.
