ABBOTTABAD: Major Faizan Ali, who was martyred in a helicopter crash in Congo, was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard here on Sunday.

His funeral prayers were attended by relatives and a large number of people from different walks of life. Officials of the Pakistan Military Academy, Abbottabad, also attended the funeral.

The martyred army officer was the son of Ghulam Sarwar, a former principal of Government Degree College No 2. He was married three years ago, and had a one-year-old daughter.

Two months ago, he went to Congo on a United Nations peace mission. The helicopter crash had claimed lives of seven persons. Later, Major Faizan was laid to rest in his native Nawansher town with military honour.
